Hurricane Harvey hydrology from space

We know that Hurricane Harvey devastated southeastern Texas in late August.  During the event NASA was monitoring the hydrological impact using several sensors.  One platform, the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission was used to measure rainfall.  NASA has a nice animation, as well as detailed information on how they use the sensor to measure precipitation.  View this page at:

They also measured the impact on soil moisture using the Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) satellite.  As expected, this shows a dramatic increase in a very short time.  View before and after maps and get detailed information about the mission and event at:
