A new course is being developed in the Department of Anthropology titled “Human Landscapes of the Past: A Landscape Archaeology Approach”. This course will explore archaeological perspectives on landscape, from traditional concerns with adaptive and economic aspects of human-environment interactions, to more recent interest in cognitive and culturally constructed landscapes. Case studies will serve to illustrate the application of landscape approaches to regional archaeological problems. Computer-based modules demonstrating the capabilities of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing will be integrated into this offering.
The facilities of the Center for Earth Observation will be used to help develop these remote sensing and GIS modules. Students will run these applications at the YCEO.
