Description:

The purpose of this project is too see the future impact of land use on asthma. Using classification methods of remote sensing, I will analyze the relationship between surrounding residential land use and their asthma severity. The asthma study is the cohort study conducted in Connecticut from 1997, and a satellite image will be chosen to a corresponding time period.

The second purpose is to measure the air pollution level from the view point of satellite imagery. Several studies show that the PM2.5 level can be measured from MISR images. I would like to see the correlation between predicted PM2.5 level derived from MISR and ground based PM2,5, which were measured by EPA. Using the predicted PM2.5 level, the relation between PM2.5 and asthma severity will be studied.
