Description:

This project is an extension of the one that I did for OEFS. Land use and land cover change studies are necessary to predict and accommodate responses to climate change in a relevant and culturally sensitive way. Using remote sensing techniques I will research agricultural land-use change in the communities of Coromata Alta, Baja, and Media and Cachilaya of La Paz, Bolivia. The information can then be used in coordination with short-term and long-term weather/climate data, elevation data, and/or on-the-ground surveys of individual farmers’ land-use strategies over time to develop mitigation and adaptation strategies.

I anticipate producing:

  • an elevation map (DEM)
  • a soil use map (using GIS data available from the Bolivian gvt because classification wasn’t possible with remote sensing)
  • a precipitation map (GOES)
