July 31, 2014
Many of you may have used the great site NationalAtlas.gov to access data from the US government and make quick online maps of these data. As of September 30, 2014 the site will be going offline. Much of the functionality will be moved the The National Map. While the site indicates this will help streamline information access, it also states that “…USGS budget austerity has compelled our organization to prioritize its civilian mapping role and to consolidate its core investments.”
Users are encouraged to browse and download any data you may want before the end of September.
The full announcement, along with links to alternate data sources and FAQs can be found on the National Atlas main page.
