Phylogeography and Ecophysiology of Cretan Plants

Investigator:

Start Date:
April, 2003
Description:

This project will investigate the phylogeography and ecophysiology of Cretan Campanulaceae, Dipsacaceae, and Valarianaceae. Spatial distribution of plant species, particularly endemics, on the Greek Island of Crete will be analysed in a phylogenetic and ecophysiological context. Ecological niche models will be developed using DEMs, climatic, geomorphological, and Landsat data. Relationships between known species distributions, niche models, and field and laboratory results are of primary interest. This research is part of the Niarchos Foundation funded international collaboration between the Yale Peabody Museum and the Natural History Museum of Crete.
