RS and GIS used to identify, map, and predict,regions of risk for Lyme Disease

This project is designed to aid decision-makers including pharmaceutical companies and physicians about the geography of risk for Lyme disease in the United States. Data at present include reported human cases, host and tick distribution, and imagery to determine vegetation and land-use patterns. Once digital layers are compiled in a GIS, a nation wide risk map will be developed to identify counties at risk for Lyme disease. This map will be posted on the web for public reference. A county scale ecological model for continued surveillance is being developed for monitoring of emerging infection sites and future public education efforts
