Description:
We are analyzing temporal-compositional trends within single eruptions in order to better understand continental basalt generation. On 9 October 2003 we will go to the Big Pine Volcanic Field in California to collect samples from volcanic vents. A satellite image of our field area will be useful for visualizing individual flows, thereby allowing us to decipher the relative timing within each eruption sequence.
