Description:

Building on known relationships between urban form and environmental impacts, the Data Driven Environmental Solutions Group (Data Driven Yale) are developing an index of urban environmental performance.  Previous indices of urban areas lack a spatial component, and rely mostly on self-reported data.

This project will rely, as much as possible, on remotely sensed data and open data sources.  We will develop spatially explicit indicators that measure variation within and around urban areas as the key differentiators in performance.  Starting with a sample of 5-10 cities, we plan to expand our analysis globally using reproducible methods and scripting.  Work at this level has never been completed to our knowledge.
