Description:

MODIS data sets have the potential to allow for more insightful studies of sparse vegetation regions. Improvements in spectral calibration, orbital degradation, image processing as well as new 16-bit data promise exceptional improvement in spatial analysis over AVHRR data. Composite images can be obtained for the entire world. Less degradation means more information can be obtained about landcover patterns in sparsely vegetated regions due to over grazing, soil degradation, and inter-annual climate change.
